Duraid Barber

Fr. Duraid E. Estefo Barber was born in Quaraquosh, Ninive Plains, Iraq, on March 8, 1970. From 1987 to 1991, he obtained his Vocational Diploma at Alhamdanyea Vocational High School, Iraq, and from 1992 to 1995, his diploma from the Technical Institute of the University of Mosul, Iraq. He studied from 1996 to 2001 at the Pontifical Babel College of Philosophy and Theology, Iraq, and obtained his BA Degree. From 2006 to 2010, he studied at the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music.

A Priest in the Syriac Catholic Church, he developed many skills in Syriac and Oriental singing (Syriac, Neo-Aramaic, Arabic, Byzantine) and instrument playing (Oud, Organ, Nai and Recorder - Flute, Guitar, Keyboard). He took classes in keyboard playing (1990-1992, Quaraquosh), Music Theory (1996-1998, Baghdad), Guitar (2001-2013, Mosul), Oud (2003-2005, Mosul), Oud (Oriental singing and Oud, Lebanon National Conservatory, 2006-2010).

 Fr. Barber teaches music, liturgy and theology next to his functions as a priest.

 He has experience in various musical fields: In 1988-1991, he was the lead vocalist of the Ruby Band; From 1991 to 1994, the lead vocalist and piano player of Angels Band; From 1989 to 1995, the Choir Director of Saint John's Choir of Quaraquosh, Iraq; From 1996 to 2001, the Choir Director of St Paul's Choir, Baghdad; From 2001 to 2005, the Choir Director of St Ephrem's choir in Mosul; From 2011 to 2014, he tought voice in Quaraquosh, Iraq; From 2011 to 2014, he has been the spiritual leader of Qaraquosh choirs; From 2011 and until now,  he is the Choir Director of the Albishara choir in Ainkawa/Quaraquosh.

 He speaks Syriac, Neo-Aramaic, Arabic, and English.
