by Poles Gajuo

Following the "Musicological Conference on Syriac Musical Traditions" organized by the Laus Plena Foundation with the Haute Ecole de Musique of Geneva (HEM) from 17 to 21 March 2021, the Foundation publishes the onclusions of the presentation of the Syriac researcher Poles Gajuo, which the Foundation supports in its studies at the HEM:

“A comparative analysis of the Mosul, Baghdida (Qaraqosh) and Bartella Syriac Catholic Musical Traditions for Holy Week: Interactions and Influences”

Poles Gajuo carried out for the first time a transcription and a comparative study between the chants and melodies of Holy Week of the three Syriac Catholic sub-traditions of Iraq, reaching very interesting conclusions on the interaction between the sub-traditions, replacing them in their historical and musicological context.
